Walter Netsch: 1920-2008

(photo: Northwestern University)

Former SOM design architect and ex-Chicago Park District president Walter Netsch died yesterday at age 88. The Chicago Tribune has a very well-done obit today. To that I would add the Art Institute of Chicago's oral history interview with Netsch, which features a great photo of the architect's study model for the Inland Steel Building, revealing an even lighter, more minimal structure than what was ultimately completed by SOM's Bruce Graham.

Wow. A striking resemblance to a young Bill Evans.
